We are here to set a new standard, where pure performance is at the heart of everything we do, from sourcing of our ingredients to our finished formulations.
CUTTING THROUGH THE BS
No more clean-washing or green-washing. We are here to set the record straight on the most commonly mistaken industry claims.
At The Lab Co., over 93–99.5% of our ingredients are derived from natural plant and mineral sources, making us one of the most natural brands on the market.
We adore natural products—but natural doesn’t always mean safer. Some plant-based ingredients, including essential oils and extracts, can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, or other sensitivities. After all, you wouldn’t rub nettles on your skin. When nature alone doesn’t deliver the safest or most effective result, we carefully select additional sustainable synthetic ingredients that meet the highest standards to be:
- Safer
- More consistent
- More sustainable — reducing strain on natural resources like plants, animals, and the earth itself.
We follow—and exceed—strict global safety standards, including the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) guidelines. IFRA is the world’s leading authority on fragrance safety, setting science-backed limits to protect people and the planet. By going beyond these standards, we ensure every product we create is safe, effective, and responsibly made.
Terms like natural and clean are not legally regulated globally, meaning brands can market products as such—even if they contain harmful chemicals. Many brands unknowingly use fragrance oils laced with hidden toxins, despite their best intentions.
At The Lab Co., we go beyond buzzwords, taking a science-led approach to ensure every ingredient—both in our formulations and fragrances—meets the highest safety and performance standards.
We are proud that our products are:
- Cruelty-Free & Vegan – Never tested on animals, 100% vegan.
- Plant & Mineral-Based, Biodegradable – 93–99.5% natural ingredients that break down safely.
- Free From Known Carcinogens & Hormone Disruptors – We ban harmful ingredients such as parabens, phosphates, phthalates, formaldehyde-releasing agents, polycyclic musk’s, macrocyclic musk’s, and more.
- Bespoke Fragrances for Safety & Sustainability – Crafted with real essential oils and safe synthetics to balance performance and eco-friendliness.
- No Direct Petrochemicals – Any necessary synthetics are responsibly sourced and transformed for safety.
No! At The Lab Co. we find them very worrying. We have no known endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in any of our products, from formulation to fragrance.
EDCs can cause hormone disruption which includes:
- premature breast development in girls and abnormal development in boys
- affecting reproductive health and causing fertility problems and abnormalities in sex organs.
EDCs have been linked to an increased risk of certain cancers, such as:
- breast cancer
- prostate cancer
- thyroid cancer
EDCs can disrupt the metabolism leading to:
- obesity
- diabetes
- other metabolic disorders
EDCs have been linked to disruption of the nervous system which causes delays in:
- speech and language
- motor skills
EDCs can affect cognitive function leading to issues with:
- concentration
- fine motor skills
- overall cognitive abilities
EDCs like chlorpyrifos has been linked to:
- ADHD (attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder)
- Disrupting healthy human development potentially causing developmental delays.
EDCs can weaken the immune system, increasing the risk of infection and other immune-related disorders.
We go beyond IFRA and legal standards to ensure our products are crafted to be 100% EDC-free—delivering the best sensorial experience without compromising health or sustainability for your health, your family and the planet.
Synthetic musk’s—such as macrocyclic and polycyclic musk’s—are widely used in fragrances. And while legal limits exist, we believe the safest dose of these musk’s is no dose at all. Concerns around their potential carcinogenic effects, endocrine disruption, and bioaccumulation cannot be ignored:
- Synthetic musk’s, which are endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), have been found in 96% of human fat samples.
(Source: Stockholm University, 2021) - EDC exposure is linked to a 60% increase in hormone-related cancers and metabolic diseases.
(Source: WHO, 2022)
At The Lab Co., we take full responsibility for creating truly safe formulations. That’s why we have a strict ban on all known EDCs, including macrocyclic and polycyclic musk’s—and we only partner with manufacturers who share our commitment to high-quality, safe, and sustainable production.
We are proud to ban the following ingredients from all formulations and fragrances:
General Ingredient Bans
Ammonia, Bleach, Benzoates & derivatives, Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial), Chlorine, Cocamide DEA, DMDM Hydantoin, Formaldehyde-releasing agents, Microbeads, Petrochemicals (direct use), Phosphates, Silicones, Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate, Synthetic dyes (in all laundry & self-care products), Triclosan, Triclocarban.
Parabens – All Banned
Used as preservatives, parabens may mimic estrogen and have been linked to hormonal disruption.
Phthalates – All Banned
We prohibit phthalates, especially those commonly used in fragrance. Examples include:
Diethyl Phthalate (DEP), Propanol (CAS 71-23-8), Toluene (CAS 108-88-3), Undeceth-5 (CAS 34398-01-1), and Vanillyl Butyl Ether (CAS 82654-98-6).
Macrocyclic Musk’s – All Banned
These are bio accumulative and known endocrine disruptors, linked to various health issues including cancers, reproductive problems, and metabolic disorders. Examples: Brassylate, Cyclopentadecanolide, Ethylene, Globanone, Habanolide, Musk C14.
Polycyclic Musk’s – All Banned
Linked to endocrine disruption and gynaecological effects. Example: Galaxolide.
Nitromusks – All Banned
Banned due to carcinogenic potential and hormone mimicry.
Transparency on Trace Ingredients & Sulfates
We do not directly add Benzyl Salicylate (CAS 118-58-1) or Benzyl Benzoate (CAS 120-51-4) to any fragrance. Where trace levels exist (e.g., from essential oils or palm-based components), we ensure RSPO-certified sustainable sourcing.
We are sulfate-free in All-Purpose Cleaners, Fabric Conditioners, and Fabric & Room Sprays. Sulfates (also spelled sulphates) are used only when essential (e.g., for foaming detergents), and always paired with skin-kind botanicals. When used, SLS/SLES meet global safety standards.

We do not believe in the phrase “done is better than perfect”. In fact, we aim for perfection with all of our products, even if it means they take twice as long to make. We can’t say we’re there yet, but we will never stop aiming for 100%.
